Nokia E51 running as a SIP PhoneNokia E51 comes with readyfor setup voip that can work over GPRS / (2.5G) / 3G / 3.5G as well as WIFI access point. The leading SIP Provider is UK/Europe based Truphone.com, which provide great SIP services at competitive rates. I have chosen Pfingo.com (Singapore based), due mainly to geographical reasons, as my SIP provider. For S$1 per month, Pfingo provides me with a real dial in number which is +65 31451668. And also a voice box answering machine bz1@ if I cannot be reached. It also comes with universal SIP address sip:31451668@sip.pfingo.com which allows user with other provider to call me. Here is a quick setup procedure: pfingoTALK No: 31459608 PIN: 123456 pfingoTALK X-Lite SIP Account Settings Display Name - Enter your pfingoTALK number (e.g. 31451668) User Name - Enter your pfingoTALK number (e.g. 31451668) Password - Enter your pfingoTALK PIN (e.g. 123456) Authorization User Name - Enter your pfingoTALK number (e.g. 31451668) Domain - Enter "sip.pfingo.com"
The quality of talking is simply superb when working on WIFI and little lagging when used on 3g and doubtful whether it will worked on a GPRS network. Alternatively,we can install third party SIP applications from VOIP providers. Popular VOIP providers are fring.com and gizmoproject.com. Both allowsyou to talk with skype, msn, gtalk and any sip provider. As ofwriting, Skype has not introduce their software for Nokia platform. Update 1 July 2008: Pfingo double the price to $2 per month, which makes it un-economical to retain a SIP number in Singapore. My E51 tends to heat up quite fast... could be the contant access of WIFI. Also the battery life drops when using SIP as compare to making an normal Cellphone call. At times, latency (voice lagged & echoing) can be an issue. So for the time being SIP like Pfingo is fun to play around (or a while), but don't depend on it to make real communication!
